Tree of Life

Our lives are defined by transitions like birth, adoption, graduation, new jobs, relationships, divorce, and retirement. This week in worship we will honor the many transitions in our lives and acknowledge how life’s seasons have transformed us. We will also dedicate ourselves as a community to the raising of the children among us. If you would like to dedicate your baby or child during this service, please send Rev. Kristin an email at revkristin@uucb.org by April 9.

Visa International founder Dee Hock said “Make an empty space in any corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.” This week in worship we will empty some space in our minds and hearts for creativity to fill us as we begin to think about the future of our congregation. The annual budget meeting will immediately follow worship with childcare in the nursery.

Washed in the Power of Love

Our religious ancestors believed in a universal salvation; a Love that was too large to turn anyone away. Unlike our Christian ancestors, many of us no longer believe that is the blood of sacrifice that saves but rather the all encompassing agape Love that once touched, is so transformative that we will save ourselves here in this reality. Please join us as we explore a re-envisioning of Unitarian Universalist salvation and the power of Love.

The Individual and the Community

Our UU 1st principle calls on us to respect the “inherent worth and dignity of every person.” Our 7th Principle calls on us to respect the “interdependent web of all existence, of which we are a part.” How can we as a congregation, a religious movement, and a society, work to create a world that recognizes both the worth of every person and our part in the interdependent web of community.

Church is one of the last places in our society where people don’t have to be segregated by age, yet so many of our experiences in this congregation are still divided according to how old we are. This week in worship we will consider how worshipping and learning together as a whole community more often could open us up to the possibilities already right here among us.

The year 2020 is 345 days from now. I remember well the turning over of the numbers as 1999 became 2000, the sense of anticipation. A year from now, what will we be doing, what is possible, who do we want to be?
